Mdina, also known as Città Vecchia, or Città Notabile, is the old capital city of Malta. Mdina is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the centre of the island, believed to have been fortified as early as 700 BC. Tradition holds that the Apostle St. Paul resided in the city after his historical shipwreck on the islands. The city is still confined within its walls, and has a population of just over three hundred people. Mdina is also commonly called the "Silent City". Situated in Mdina, is Malta’s impressive Cathedral dedicated to the Conversion of St. Paul.
